Understanding Airline Fees: Bags, Seats, and Changes
Quick answer: Base fares often exclude bags, seat selection, and changes. Compare the full cost of the options you actually need.
Base fare vs total cost
The headline price may exclude baggage, seat selection, and payment fees. Add these before comparing airlines.
Baggage rules
Checked and carry-on rules differ by fare type and airline. Confirm weight and size limits.
Seat selection
Choosing a seat can cost extra on some airlines. If you travel with others, check whether seats can be assigned together for free.
Change and cancellation policies
Some fares do not allow changes or refunds. Compare the flexibility you need against the lower price.
